Alpschelenhubel

A less well known walk from the Ueschinental over the Alpschele meadows returning to Kandersteg by way of the Allmenalp cable car.

Alpschelenhubel:

This walk starts and ends with the Allmenalp cable car. From the top station at Undere Allme, follow the path to the Ueschinental with its splendid views across the Kander valley to the Oeschinensee and the Blümlisalp range. Continue through Aeusser Ueschinen passing the Lohner Restaurant. About 10 minutes further along the Ueschinental, take the signed path to the right which zigzags formidably up the alp. It will take at least an hour and a half to reach the farm at Apschelen, gaining about 500m.

To get to Alpschelenhubel take the lower route which is signed as 30 minutes but took us more like 50 minutes, following an easy path across the high meadow. Above to the left you can see the Bunderschrinde pass over to Adelboden and the views along the length of the Ueschinental below, are stunning. On reaching the view point at Alpschelenhubel, there are magnificent views down into Kandersteg and across to the Oeschinensee.

The path continues along the ridge to the Alpschelegrat where the path forks with routes to Bunderschrinde or down via Obere Allme to the Allmenalp cable car. Take the steep shale path down until it reaches the grassy bowl and the signpost at Obere Allme Pkt 2120. From here it is an easy 40 minute walk back to the top of the cable car (where you may well see llamas). You also pass underneath the popular launch point for the gleitschirm paragliders so allow time to admire their technique.

Make sure you are well equipped with food and liquid on this walk as there are no restaurants other than at the Allmenalp cable car area and at Lohner Restaurant in Aeusser Ueschinen.
