The funicular railway from Mülenen up to the top of the Niesen, is in two stages - Mülenen to Schwandegg and then Schwandegg to the top of the Niesen (Niesen Kulm). You can walk part way or take the railway all the way. You have to change cabin at Schwandegg anyway. Get the timetable from http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/en/welcome/ with a search key of Niesen. On the 2011 timetable ( http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2011/2405.pdf ) it runs every 30 minutes during the summer between 8:00 and 17:00 with some other times on some days.

Beware that it is nearly 10 minutes walk from the bottom of the Niesen railway to catch the train at Mülenen.
